Beerbohm was born into a family of intellectuals and artists. His father was Julius Beerbohm, a businessman, and his mother was Eliza Draper Beerbohm, a socialite. From an early age, Max showed a talent for drawing and writing, which would later become the cornerstones of his career.

Beerbohm's caricatures were distinctive for their exaggerated features and keen observations of his subjects' personalities. He often depicted prominent figures of the day, including politicians, actors, and writers, with humor and insight. His caricatures were widely admired for their wit and elegance, earning him a reputation as one of the leading caricaturists of his time.

In addition to his work as a caricaturist, Beerbohm was also an accomplished essayist and critic.
